wikis

I am fascinated by the Flat Classroom Project. Seems that must have taken a lot of training and start up time. I like the way each of the schools had its own rubric which shows collaborating does not drive the grading...It can be tailored to each school. It is hard for me to imagine what goes on behind the scenes of creating something collaboratively. How did the students collaborate to create the student biology 101 wiki? I am also confused by the relationship of Ning and wikis. Can someone enlighten me? (This is a test to see if anyone is reading my blog!)

Hi Carolyn, good question! I like to think of wikis as "collaborative website building" - essentially, more than one person is working to build a common product - a website! This can involve discussion (what collaboration doesn't?) as well as revisions (wikis allow you to go back to previous versions with just one click!).
Ning is a social network - think of it like a quilting bee on the Internet. In fact, I bet there is a social network just for quilters! At a social networking website, people can discuss ideas that interest them and meet like-minded individuals living all over the world.
